BUSINESS ENGLISH

Academic Year 2023/2024 - Teacher: VIRGINIA DI ROSA

Expected Learning Outcomes

Students will be encouraged to:

-        improve and expand their basic knowledges of the English language;

-        create written texts and oral presentations in English focusing on economic and business;

-        develop critical thinking and collaborate with other students sharing opinions, ideas and knowledges.

 

Students will work and improve the following skills:

-        READING SKILLS: read, understand and analyse a written text, reflect on the contents and on the language structures;

-        WRITING SKILLS: write a text or an email using appropriate language;

-        LISTENING SKILLS: listen to dialogues, conversations and oral presentations, understand their contents and aims; the discourse is articulated at a leisurely pace;

-        ORAL SKILLS: participate in discussions related to the business sector and trade in general, comment oral texts and academic articles, present orally.

 

The teacher will advise and suggest students in order to help them in learning methods, improve or refresh previous and new knowledges.

Required Prerequisites

Any kind of prerequisite.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance is not mandatory, but students are invited to attend lessons in order to practice for the final exam.

Detailed Course Content

Lessons will be divided in two parts: a refresh of the most important grammatical structures in English and specialized language in economics and business. Particularly:

-        Jobs

-        Written communication: CV, cover letter, email

-        Oral communication: graphs, call, meeting

-        Economics and business organization

-        Production, incoterms, credit and transport

 

Every lesson will be organized as follow:

-        Topic and introduction

-        Readings and vocabulary concerning specialized language

-        Grammar

-       Practice for the final exam

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The final examination consists of a written examination and an oral examination (based on Business Preliminary B1 – Cambridge). This exam hasn’t a final mark, nut only “eligible” or “not eligible”.

-        Use of English (reading comprehension and grammar)

-        Writing

-        Oral skills
