Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding: The course aims to provide students with the fundamental terminology and methodologies of financial statement analysis to represent and comprehend the facts of analysis and evaluation of financial data, acquiring its specific language.

Applying knowledge and understanding: The knowledge gained in the field of financial statements will lay the foundation for developing technical and accounting skills to conduct financial statement analysis. In particular, students will acquire the ability to analyze economic and financial performance and will be able to grasp the systematic nature of accounting disclosures, leading to the determination of the economic results of management and the related financial statement analysis.

Making judgements: The course will enable students to develop autonomy of judgment and put them in a position to express critical considerations regarding the management strategies and estimated future performance.

Communication skills: Students will develop the critical ability to analyze business performance and convey it to the stakeholders of the company.

Learning skills: The course will allow students to understand business dynamics by placing financial statement analysis within the broader system of the composition of balance sheet items, with a particular emphasis on economic and financial performance.

Detailed Course Content

The course consists of 3 modules aimed at developing the skills needed for the analysis of financial statements. Specifically, 

Module 1: Construction and analysis of the documents that make up the financial statement: Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Notes and Statement of Cash Flows. Financial accounting and basic accounting principles.

Module 2: Restructuring of thefinancial statement. Statement of Cash Flows. Financial ratios and performance evaluation.

Module 3: Analysis of earnings quality, earnings management, and techniques for detecting accounting manipulation practices.

If the course is delivered in a blended or remote mode, necessary adjustments may be made compared to what was previously stated in order to adhere to the planned program as outlined in the syllabus.
