LABOUR ECONOMICS
Academic Year 2022/2023 - Teacher: LUIGI BONAVENTURAExpected Learning Outcomes
The main goal of the course in Labour Economics is offering an overview of the recent theoretical and empirical developments in the discipline. The course opens with the standard framework of labour supply by household and labour demand by firms, which interact in a competitive framework. When educational choices are introduced, heterogeneity among agents occurs.
This theme is then expanded in the second module, where labour market institutions, discrimination and/or incentives may create wage differentials that are not fully compatible with the competitive framework. The third module analyzes topics on the frontier of labour economics research (migration, crime). Previous knowledge of teaching of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics may be helpful.
Course Structure
During the course are planned cycles of exercises, usually scheduled at the end of each block of topics. The exercises are intended to facilitate a more complete assimilation of the topics covered in theory in class. The classroom teacher will provide additional information relating to investigations of specific parts of the program.
Required Prerequisites
Students are advised to undertake the study of labor economics after having acquired the basics of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
