Seminario: Modern Monetary Theory and the Controversy over Money Creation, Fiscal Space, and Inflation

Martedì 26 Maggio 2026, alle ore 12:00, si terrà presso la Sala Riunioni del 3° piano di Palazzo delle Scienze, un seminario sul tema: Modern Monetary Theory and the Controversy over Money Creation, Fiscal Space, and Inflation (Prof. Maciej Ryczkowski - Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management - Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland)

Abstract -

The seminar will focus on Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) in the context of modern money creation and inflation. Within this framework, a brief overview of the history of Polish economic thought on inflation will also be presented. MMT represents a contemporary theoretical paradigm in economics and finance that has gained considerable attention in academic and public debates. A central element of the discussion surrounding MMT concerns its alternative interpretation of fiscal constraints on the state, especially the role of budget deficits financed through money creation. Proponents and critics of this approach differ fundamentally in their assessment of the implications of these constraints for macroeconomic stability and inflation dynamics.
