Gaia Taiani
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Economics (L-33) from the Department of Economics and Business at the University of Catania in July 2021, with a thesis titled “Underdeveloped Countries: How Policies and International Intervention Can Fight Poverty”, supervised by Professor Domenico Lisi, and graduated with a final grade of 109/110.
In July 2023, I completed my Master’s degree in Law and Economics of Insurance and Finance (LM-56) at the University of Bologna, defending a thesis titled “Green Bonds and the Greenium: An Empirical Study on German Twin Bond”, under the supervision of Professor Emanuela Carbonara, also graduating with a final grade of 109/110.
I am currently pursuing the PhD in Economics, Management and Decision Making (XXXIX cycle) at the University of Catania, where, under the supervision of Professor Domenico Lisi, I am conducting research in the field of economics, with a particular focus on social sustainability, gender issues, and the role of institutional quality.
In July 2024, during the first year of my PhD, I attended two summer schools at the Barcelona School of Economics, aimed at deepening my knowledge of gender and development economics, both in terms of content and methodology.
I spent the academic year 2024-2025 abroad at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid for study and research purposes.
My research focuses primarily on social sustainability, particularly gender equality, with a focus on the gap in political participation in Italy, and the quality of local institutions. In general, I am interested in inequality in its many forms and in development economics.
