Expected Learning Outcomes

The course of Business English aims to:

Improve language skills for the professional and business environment.

Provide tools for dealing with international work situations, such as meetings, negotiations, and professional correspondence.

Develop technical vocabulary in the economic and commercial field.

Course Structure

Frontal lesson

Required Prerequisites

Basic language skills

English level at least equal to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Ability to understand and produce simple texts in English.

Knowledge of basic grammatical structures (present simple, past simple, future forms, basic modes).

Basic knowledge in economics

Familiarity with basic economic concepts (e.g. market, supply and demand, budget).

General knowledge of economic terminology in Italian.

Interest in the business environment

Motivation to develop language skills geared towards the world of work.

Interest in international communication.

Study skills and active participation

Willingness to participate actively in practical exercises, role-plays and classroom simulations.

Ability to work in groups and to speak in English.

These prerequisites will ensure that students can take full advantage of the course and deal with the proposed content with confidence.

Introduction to Business English. Differences between general and business English.


Importance of English in the business world.

Specific vocabulary. 

Economic and financial terms.

Useful expressions for presentations, meetings and negotiations.

Common phrases for business correspondence.

Professional e-mail (formal/informal structure and language). 

Writing of company reports and commercial documents. 

Letters of request, offer and complaint.. Oral communication. 

Management of telephone conversations and video calls.

Effective presentations in a business context.

Techniques for conducting and participating in meetings.

Soft Skills in English. Negotiation and conflict resolution.
